Why use Lightroom over Photoshop? Which tool suits you the best?
Ever wondered how top Instagram influencers create those perfect pictures?
Well that’s no more a secret now. You can now change the look and feel of your images with lightroom’s easy-to-use interface.
Lightroom is a powerful and user friendly image editing cloud software which helps you to create beautiful pictures and manages to bring out the subtle nuances of the image dramatically. It is not a much space consuming software and can be installed in small laptops and also has a mobile version for editing. It occupies less disk space as compared to Photoshop.
Photographers today whether Amateur or Professional ones, use Lightroom for editing and correcting colours in their shots.
Photoshop is not as easy as Lightroom and so it’s not recommended for beginners. There are certain things which a beginner can’t figure out on its own. Photoshop deals with more of detailed editing where you can also focus on a single area or object according to your need. Also Photoshop is a bit complicated software to understand by beginners as compared to Lightroom where it is a slider based software and proves to be more user friendly.
Also if you have done any adjustments in the picture and you don’t like it you can simply double tap on the slider and it will go back to the value zero again making the changes null.
Lightroom and Photoshop go hand in hand according to the type of project you’re working on. Lightroom also has a mobile version which also is great for editing your photos and turning their colours from pale to amaze in a few seconds. It is also a cheaper software as compared to Photoshop as which is quite expensive. But if you know how to crack it then you’re on the go with both the softwares.
Moreover, Photoshop is basically an image manipulation software it doesn’t let you open raw images if you don’t have adobe camera raw.
The comparison war between Lightroom and Photoshop will never end! As both of them have great features to offer but here are some pros of Lightroom over photoshop that I personally like:
- Lightroom saves all your work in real time
Lightroom saves all your changes and steps that you have done even if the program shuts down accidentally or by any chance whereas on the other hand Photoshop saves only a few steps and if you haven’t saved your file in psd format then you can’t adjust it later on.
- Edit like a pro in Lightroom
Lightroom is a non-destructive software which makes a copy of your image and lets you edit it keeping your original photo safe, whereas photoshop doesn’t create a copy and does everything on the original photo. The software also allows you to copy your edits from one image and paste onto the other one. Also you can untick the checkboxes which you don’t want to paste on the other image. This helps you in faster editing.
- Putting a logo or watermark is a child’s play
You just have to import the images you want to be watermarked and then export them and while exporting you have to check the box which says watermark and you can choose your watermark from your system or you can simply add a text containing your name and save it as a predefined one for later use too, and it’s done.
Making changes on multiples files at a same time is also possible through Lightroom. You just have to select the images and start making your adjustments.
- Before and After feature
One of the best features of Lightroom which I like the most is the Before and After feature. This features lets you compare your original shot with the one that you have enhanced. This proves to be an easy reference throughout the editing process.
- File conversion is very easy in lightroom
Converting your raw images into JPEG can also be done easily just by importing the pictures and then exporting them by just changing their file format.
Lightroom uses a preset system which lets you save and create your own presets. You can create your presets by making adjustments on your shot and then you can save it for later use too.
Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard software which allows you to edit, retouch and manipulate your images. The use of Photoshop in real life is boundless. There are artists that exploit this boundless potential of Photoshop to create incredible effects.
Digital Painting: Adobe Photoshop is such a versatile image editing software that it let’s us explore our creative side with its innovative tools. One such tool is the “Digital Painting Tool” which helps you create a painting/ art work of your own. It is created by using a brush tool in spontaneous manner. The tool allows us to impersonate the physical objects/people in their own virtual manner using virtual colours and brushes. The digital painting of the banana above is one of my first attempts with Digital Painting tool in Photoshop.
Although with changing times the authority of Photoshop has been challenged by many other editing softwares but this has not declined the use of Photoshop. Professionals still depend on Photoshop for great results.
Photoshop truly brings out the creativity in you. It has a lot to offer. Ordinary shots can be transformed into professional ones with such an ease. It’s an all-purpose software.
Spot Healing Brush: Another great tool of Photoshop is the Spot Healing Brush, which allows you to remove unwanted objects with a preferred texture, colour and value. With the help of this tool I removed the pimples and blemishes on this girl’s face (see the picture above).
Further, we can edit and make animated videos in it. As we all know that whatsapp is the trendiest app nowadays and sharing gifs on whatsapp is so cool. Creation of gifs also takes place in Photoshop. It also offers graphic designers so many templates and graphics to design.
3d graphics, layering, tons and tons of effects, filters are some of the goodies Photoshop offers. Also the continuous updates of Photoshop can truly turn you into a digital imaging guru as they are making the software way too easy to access.
Photoshop kinda adds magic to your images. The things which one could only imagine can be turned down onto a canvas with Photoshop. Also you can sharpen your blurry images in Photoshop.
Those who are creative enough and want to utilize and strengthen their editing skills then Photoshop has the answer to all their queries. Also Photoshop takes photos to a professional level which makes it a choice of many.
I guess this much will be enough for you to now figure out which software will do the needful to your editing problems.
Also, no software is criticized or degraded here as both of them are master editing softwares and can do wonders if you’re creative enough and have the potential to bring out some out of the box ideas.
So why wait? Turn on your laptops and open your doors to creativity. 😉
Let the colours fill your images incredibly.
